Associates Certificate in Marine

In accordance with Regulation/Section A-III/4 of the Standard of Training Certification and Watch keeping (STCW Convention/Convention) for seafarers as amended which established the mandatory minimum requirements for certification of ratings forming part of a watch in a manned engine room or designated to perform duties in a periodically unmanned engine room or intended to be assigned or assigned to ship with ship board duties on board a seagoing vessel/ship other than passenger ship at the operational level.

What will I gain from this qualification? 
Upon satisfactory completion, trainees or graduants will be able to demonstrate the standard of competence required to undertake at the operational level the duty of an engineering watch on ship of less than 3000KW propulsion engine, they will be able to carry out maintenance and repair at the operational level on propulsion machinery of more than 3000kw and also care for personnel on board a ship at the operational and support level.

 First Semester: First semester contains a semester of three months.

Second Semester: consist of a semester of three months.

Course delivery
Using a combination of experienced lecturers/instructors, classroom syndicate exercises interactive activities and practical demonstrations.                                   

 Entry qualification?
Candidates must have at least eighteen (18) months seagoing service experience, no less than 18years of age; possess a valid seafarer’s medical fitness certificate, MEA Certificate of Competence or degree from any University degree

What kind of People takes the Associate Certificate in Marine Engineering Course?
Persons/people who work or intends to work in the maritime and/or oil & gas sector or industries especially those who are employed to work on board a marine vessel/ship.  Ratings who are in charge of an engineering watch and also those designated with the duty of an engineering watch in a periodically unmanned engine room on a seagoing ship powered by main propulsion machinery of 750KW  or more Propulsion power.

What does the course cover?
The courses covered includes; Mechanical Science, Hand & Power Tools, Electrical Technology, Mathematics, Thermodynamics, Basic Engineering Science, Engineering drawing, Use of English, Machine Tools.
This course covers Marine Plant Operations, Industrial Chemistry, Marine Engineering Maintenance, Welding & Fabrication, and Introduction to Computer Hardware, Ship & Ship Routine, Naval Architecture and Ship Construction, Engineering Material, Electric Machineries

Course Duration: Six (6) months. 

 

Career Development: The course will provide specialist knowledge and opportunity for those seeking to become an officer and it is a requirement for obtaining the particular certificate of competency (COC) and eligibility from NIAMSA for officers (OOW)
